How to Stop Dreaming About Romantic Fantasies

img_1994In a previous post, I explained why romantic fantasies were harmful to the Christian girl. (You can read about it here.)

Romantic fantasies give girls an unrealistic view of love, cause them to become dissatisfied in their single years, and make them carry out the sin of lust.

Believing that there is no harm in romantic fantasies will lead you into trouble.

Just because it may be a secret sin, only you know about what is in your mind, doesn’t make it right. Taking hold of your thoughts and purifying them is the best thing you can do.

Here are some ways that you can stop dreaming about romantic fantasies:

1. Memorize scripture.

This is one of the best things you can possibly do.

When you become tempted and your thoughts start to get away from you, turn to God’s word for strength.

A great verse to memorize is Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

There are so many more verses to help you keep your mind pure and free from romantic fantasies. (12 Verses on Purity That You Should Know )

2. Get rid of things that cause your mind to wander.

Books, movies, music, and magazines are filled with things that cause your mind to wander to impure thoughts. Things such as these will tempt you and make it harder for you to stop your secret sin.

Get rid of the things that cause your mind to wander. It will take away much of the temptation of dwelling on impure thoughts.

3. Spend your time with other things.

Daydreaming of a perfect romance takes away important time. Time that could be used for God’s good.

Find a different pursuit and chase after it. Help others or volunteer. Just find something else to take up your time and thoughts.

Taking control of your thoughts is what God wants of you.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worth of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8, bold added)

God wants to the best for us. That includes what we think about and dwell on.

Removing your impure thoughts is what the Lord wants and what is best for you.

In His amazing love,
